Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea: Celebrating Native Hawaiian Advocacy Through Film

Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea (Sovereignty Restoration Day) was declared by the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1843 following the five-month occupation of the Kingdom by Great Britain. In 2022, the Hawaiʻi State Legislature passed House Bill 2475, which Governor David Ige signed into law as Act 82, establishing July 31 as Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea.

Wed., July 12th – 30th Anniversary of The Tribunal
A look back on the momentous Tribunal in 1993 when lawyers and judges from across the world convened in Hawaiʻi to litigate Hawaiʻi’s independence. Featuring Dr. Jonathan Osorio (Dean of Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge), filmmaker Joan Lander (Nā Maka o ka ‘Āina), Nālani Minton (Representative for Tribunal Kōmike), Associate Professor Kaleikoa Ka‘eo (UH Maui College), and other guests. Moderated by Professor Troy Andrade (Executive Board, King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center).
