Ke Kaua o Ka Lahui: The Life of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi (Closing Show)

The King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī Coalition invite you to Aliʻiōlani Hale to experience Ke Kauā o Ka Lāhui: The Life of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Pi‘ikoi, a living history theater performance about Prince Kūhiō’s remarkable life, from his childhood as a young aliʻi through his lifelong commitment to improving the welfare of the people of Hawaiʻi. Featuring cast: J. Mamamo Bailon, James Keawe Bright, Alakaʻi Cunningham, J. Makiʻilei Ishihara, Kalia Ongolea, and Charles Kūpahu Timtim.

Ke Kauā o Ka Lāhui: The Life of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Pi‘ikoi was written by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl and directed/produced by Sammie Choy, in conversation with many scholars, teachers, and civic leaders who continue to mālama Prince Kūhiō’s legacy in their work. A brief talk-story with Hawaiian scholar Dr. M. Kawēlau Wright will follow the performance. This production is generously funded by Kamehameha Schools Kaiāulu program. 

The play, which originally debuted at ‘Iolani Palace on September 4, 2022, was created in partnership with Hawai‘i Pono‘ī Coalition and Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities, with initial funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities: A More Perfect Union Initiative and the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
